QLD:Pub awash as Gympie is swamped

BRISBANE, Jan 10 AAP - The last time a major flood hit Gympie, the Royal Hotel went
under. Right under.

That was in 1999, when the Mary River peaked just shy of 22 metres.

Amid warnings of at least a 20-metre peak in the next 24 hours, - and the possibility
it will climb even higher - the Royal's assistant manager Jess Philpot knows what to expect.

"You want to cry," she told AAP on Monday, as about 1.5 metres of water washed through
the pub's bottom bar.
