Fed: Hill says Latham having a bet each way on Pine Gap

CANBERRA, Feb 24 AAP - Opposition Leader Mark Latham was having a bet each way in backing
the joint Australia-United States facility at Pine Gap but opposing Australian involvement
in missile defence, Defence Minister Robert Hill said today.

Senator Hill said Mr Latham appeared to be trying to satisfy both the left and right
of the Labor Party.

"He wants to be seen sort of pro-west one way but not too pro-west. That is not really
