Vic: Victorians brace for monster bush inferno

Victorians in the state's east and north-east .. have been warned not to leave evacutation
too late .. as five menacing fires threaten to merge into a monster inferno.

Flames have already gutted almost 150 thousand hectares of bushland in the Mansfield
.. King Valley .. Heyfield .. Buckland Valley and Bairnsdale areas.

With tomorrow's forecast of northerly winds and temperatures of up to 37 degrees ..

there are fears individual blazes could combine into a 100 kilometre fire front.

Country Fire Authority chief RUSSELL REES says late evacuation can be deadly.

And spokesman JOHN SCHAUBLE says many people who die in fires are those who try to
leave too late in a car.
