Qld: Father of slain man criticises Beattie

The father of a man bashed to death in Brisbane over a pair of fake designer shoes
has blamed Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE for failing to make the city safe.

23-year-old PAUL MARKHAM died on Monday from injuries sustained during the robbery
outside Brisbane's Embassy Hotel on Sunday.

An 18-year-old youth has been charged over the killing.

Mr MARKHAM'S father, ROY, phoned Brisbane's radio 4BC while Mr BEATTIE was on air today.

Mr MARKHAM says Mr BEATTIE is more concerned about catching speeders than stopping
violence and he should get his priorities right.

Mr BEATTIE says there's nothing more he can say to Mr MARKHAM other than the police
have done their job.

He says the biggest problem facing the sunshine state is the excessive drinking culture,
which leads to violence flowing on to the streets.
