Fed: Crean to visit Latin America
CANBERRA, April 6 AAP - Australia's trade minister will this week travel to Latin America
to pursue opportunities with five countries.
Simon Crean will use his trip to Uruguay for the next Cairns Group meeting to also
visit Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
Mr Crean told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday there was huge market potential in the
region, with Australia already working with Chile to advance the Trans Pacific Partnership
(TPP) agreement.
The TPP would create a region-wide free trade zone in the Asia Pacific.
A business delegation will go to Mexico, Chile and Argentina to investigate opportunities
in mining and clean energy.
Mr Crean said the Cairns Group would discuss ways to progress the stalled Doha round,
which aims to free up global trade, but has not succeeded due to differences between rich
and poor nations.
